“This is total war. We are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out there. All this talk about first we are going to do Afghanistan, then we will do Iraq... this is entirely the wrong way to go about it. If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely and we don’t try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just wage a total war... our children will sing great songs about us years from now.”

-- Richard Perle

"Further, the process of transformation,
even if it brings revolutionary change,
is likely to be a long one,
absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event
– like a new Pearl Harbor."

-- from "Rebuilding America's Defenses"

This site is a collection of articles, publications and news stories about PNAC (Project for the New American Century), a Washington think tank whose members started pressing for the Iraq invasion long before 9/11. PNAC members authored a Project Paper titled "Rebuilding America's Defenses", which laid out an extensive plan for US global domination, beginning with invading and occupying the Middle East. They have been pushing for regime change in Iraq since 1997, and their members include Jeb Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, John Bolton, Richard Perle and many others close to the Bush administration. With the start of the Bush presidency, many PNAC members were installed in various positions in Bush's cabinet, and the push for war began -- a push for war based on false evidence at best and fabricated lies at worst.

PNAC is no conspiracy theory; it is a well-documented group whose members and alumni include the list of members to your right. Exploring PNAC provides some answers for anyone interested in learning the reasoning behind the theory that our government would knowingly invade Iraq on false pretenses. Learning about PNAC and their agenda also provides some insight on the reasoning behind the theory that members of the Bush administration (who are also PNAC members) would have wanted the terror attack on September 11; it provided the "Pearl Harbor" catastrophe that PNAC stated clearly was required in order to set their plans in motion at anything other than an undesirably slow pace.

Exporting the American Model: Markets and Democracy

There is something absurd and inherently false about one country trying to impose its system of government or its economic institutions on another. Such an enterprise amounts to a dictionary definition of imperialism. When what's at issue is "democracy," you have the fallacy of using the end to justify the means (making war on those to be democratized), and in the process the leaders of the missionary country are invariably infected with the sins of hubris, racism, and arrogance.

The PNAC Paper Trail

The longer the fiasco in Iraq drags on, the more we hear the folks who cooked up the idea of invading that sand dune republic denying that they had anything to do with it. Crooks and Liars provided this John Bolton quote from a press conference televised last week on CNN.

Hawks Looking for New and Bigger Enemies?

Analysis by Jim Lobe

WASHINGTON, May 5 (IPS) - As if rallying fading public support for keeping more than 100,000 U.S. troops in a disintegrating Iraq and preparing the ground for a possible military attack on Iran were not enough, some influential hawks are now promoting a more confrontational stance against Russia and China, as well.

Bush's Grand Game - A PNAC Primer Update

When the Bush Administration keeps hauling out its "we-didn't-know-nothin'" spin -- about Katrina, 9/11, Iraq, torture -- in effect they're using incompetence as their defense. How can you try to censure or impeach us, they're saying, when we didn't know what was happening, what to do or how to do it?

Playing the Chaos Card in the Middle East
Posted by: jade on Monday, November 07, 2005 - 09:37 PM
By Mark A. LeVine

Within twenty-four hours, on October 16-17, the New York Times ran three stories about the threat increasing chaos posed to emerging, still fragile political orders in Iraq, Palestine, and the Sudan. In all three cases, the chaos afflicting these societies was described as an unintentional and negative consequence of ill-conceived policies put in place by the various governments involved: the U.S. in Iraq, Israel as it withdrew from Gaza, and the Sudanese Government as it finally tried to restrain marauding Janjaweed militias in Darfur. In no case was the chaos viewed as intentional or beneficial to one or more of the forces competing for control of these countries.
